Nadia Runs Paris
I TESTED THE VITAL DOME: ANOTHER WAY TO RECOVER AFTER A RACE
First Monday in December, it’s cold and rainy. I have not stopped running since September: literally and figuratively. Even after my adventure in the Tunisian desert, I told myself that I would treat myself to a massage or spa. I never did it afterwards. Seen my organization, I did not have the time concretely. And then, last week, finally, I took this appointment. Not a massage but 30 minutes of heat. An ideal time to warm me up.
I have never done cryotherapy because it does not tempt me. I will definitely try one day but for now, it’s no. But for my recovery sport, I am curious and so I went to Villa Thalgo to offer me a comforting and warm care: the Vital Dôme.
What is the Vital Dôme?
It’s a technology called infratherapy. This means that the dome causing slight hyperthermia will allow deep perspiration at the level of the hypodermis. As for a sport session.
Long infrared penetrates the skin and increases blood flow and oxygen supply.
How is a session going?
First, I arrived in a room with this impressive dome. Admittedly, it reminded me of MRI booths. But seeing how the machine opened, I did not have the fear of getting stuck in it. Moreover, the manager explained to me how it opened and closed so that I feel at ease.
I settled in a swimsuit on a large bath towel (but if you forget it, it does not matter, we will lend you a panties spa). We close the dome and ask me what I want: rather detox, relaxation or sports. Obviously, I choose sport because my muscles also need to relax. The lady explains that sports, it’s really hot. I confirm. I am curious and above all I want to share with you my experience. But know that even with a session for “sports”, relaxation will also be done.
A small soft music to accompany and the lights are off, just a few candles to give a subdued atmosphere.
Just for that, I feel that I will ask myself and relax well. It’s nice and pleasant under the dome. The first 10 minutes are those of acclimatization: it heats a little but really bearable. And then, I close my eyes and let myself be guided by the sound of music or simply because I am tired. It will be my micro-nap of the day. And gradually, I feel the effects of heat. It heats clearly but without burning. It is rather a hammam effect for the body and as the head is outside, I can breathe properly. At one point, towards the end, I was warm. It was enough for me then to go out just arms to find a little freshness.
I was looking at my Charge 3 Fitbit watch, and I noticed the cardio that was well mounted at 107 while I was lying down. Usually, I am at 70. It also meant that I had the same cardio as during my yoga or abs session.
I was sweating profusely. I was good, eyes closed, limit to fall asleep. And it was not counting on the beep beep of the machine that warned me that the session was over. 30 minutes seemed short finally.
I held the heat and casually, it becomes another way to sweat without playing a sport. And to avoid dehydration, infused waters are available everywhere.
Clearly, the first thing felt was a wave of relaxation. I felt zen. And it had been a long time since I had enjoyed such a moment. When I’m taken by the everyday, I really wanted to let myself be guided by this treatment. The muscles are relaxed but the head is relaxed. This can be a massage for those who do not like the feeling of being touched.
How many ? 39 € about 30 minutes
Why go there? It is a real moment of relaxation and for us, the athletes, a recovery that is good.
